Islamabad: The Ministry of Planning & Development has announced its decision to establish an autonomous ‘Construction Industry Development Board’ (CIDB), a news source reported. To this effect, the ministry has provided a notification for the draft of the ‘CIDB Bill 2020’.

The ministry aims to promote and facilitate the private construction industry through the establishment of CIDB. The board will also help encourage investments, along with safeguarding existing ones, within the infrastructure sector. It will also set up a one-window facility for the industry stakeholders.

CIDB will have its main office in Islamabad, with regional offices established in other cities as it may find appropriate. The board will have the authority to prescribe standards of construction from time to time. Additionally, it may register and keep a roster of construction sector professionals in a bid to maintain standards of performance and services, along with regulating human resources.

Moreover, the CIDB will comprise a 16-member Executive Council. This will include a chairman, who will be a nominee of the prime minister and a professional from the private sector – not within the scope of a public employee (in service to Pakistan, any province, or elected representative). The ministry will decide and transfer the administrative control of the board after its establishment.
